Hansei University was established in 1953 for the purpose of providing holistic education based on Christian faith and academic inquiry. All faculty and staff of the university work as one for the education of students, so that they will become members of society with compassion and upright character. This is achieved with Hansei's educational philosophy of righteousness, truth, and love. Practical education with theory and practice develop specialists in many fields of endeavour. Hansei has attained outstanding results with this philosophy. In 2005, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology awarded the school the title of Design Specialization University, and in 2008 Outstanding University for Human Resources Development in the 2008 Education Capacity Consolidation Project. The school was selected by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in its project to expand University Employment Support during 2006-2008. In 2009, the Ministry of Health and Welfare selected the university for the Regional Society Service Investment Project and Young Adult Project Group Support Project. Also, a university evaluation by JoongAng Daily ranked Hansei as 1st in the Rate of Securing Foreigner Faculty in 2013. Moreover, Hansei was the first to set up a GEMi (Green Education Meta-design Innovation) Environment-Friendly Design Research Center and has spearheaded specialization of environment friendly design. With a strategy of specialization in health and welfare, Hansei was able to obtain authorization from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to set up the Department of Nursing. Hansei also established the Major of Art and Performance recently. In 2013 Hansei established the Major of Industry Security to prevent Korea's technology from being lost, and the Major of Chinese as China's influence is growing in the world.

Seeking to internationalize and globalize, Hansei University has opened a door of opportunity for our students to develop as global specialists with a wealth of experience, as they engage in exchange programs with approximately 70 outstanding universities in 22 countries worldwide, including the USA, China, and Japan. Hansei University recently opened a library and cultural complex called, 'Youngsan V'ision Center', which is equipped with a high-tech ubiquitous media system for students to devote themselves to their studies, and to follow their dreams. The Young-san Vision Center is equipped with the best academic information center that has various IT systems and a Li-Service and mobile service system.

Currently Hansei University is pushing ahead a medium and long term Master Plan for 2020, under the slogan 'New Dream, New Hansei', for talented students of Hansei to step ahead with confidence.
